MPSSAA State Final Cross Country Roundup

Cross Country runners from all across Maryland descended on Hereford High School in Baltimore County for the MPSSAA State Finals! To read a little bit about each race, as well as see the full results from each race, look below.

Note: the teams pictured are the state champions from each race. The individuals pictured were the individual state champions from each race.

1A Girls

With a score of 43, Boonsboro won the team state championship for 1A Girls. The Warriors placed three runners in the top 5, including Haley Wright who won the individual running championship with a time of 19:33. Boonsboro also had Kaitlyn Rogers finish third (21:07) and Camryn Harper (21:11) finish fifth.

Smithsburg finished second with a score of 51. Their top runner was Erica Lindsay who finished sixth with a time of 21:12. Ashley Betz from Patterson Mill finished second with a time of 20:47.

1A Boys

Boonsboro swept both 1A titles when their boys team finished first in their race, scoring a 78. The Warriors were led by Michael Bair's eighth place finish, completing the course in 17:45.1. Donovan McClellan wasn't too far behind, placing 11th and second for Boonsboro with a time of 18:00.

Smithsburg finished second with a score of 106. Will Merritt had the fastest individual time in the race, scoring a 16:50 to become state champ. Anthony Glasgow of Fairmont Heights finished second with a time of 17:21.

2A Girls

Hereford dominated on their home course to win the 2A Girls state title. The Bulls scored a 50, which was 68 points better than second place Century, who scored 118. Hereford got good performances from Sarah Coffey (19:13) and Kelly Shearer (19:20), who finished third and fourth respectively.

The Hereford duo were only beaten by Hayley Jackson from Patuxent and Brit Lang from Oakland Mills. Jackson,the individual state champ, finished the race in 18:23. She also had the best time of any girl from any of the four races. Lang finished second with a 19:07.

2A Boys

Liberty placed two runners in the top three to do just enough to beat Oakland Mills. The Lions finished with an 89, while Oakland Mills had a 92. Nick Tilson was Liberty's top runner, finishing second overall with a time of 16:39. Daniel Saxon was the second Liberty runner, and third overall, to finish when he completed the race with a time of 16:48. Oakland Mills' best runner was Joey Navarro (16:53) who finished fifth overall.

Brian Cave from South Carroll was the individual state champ. He completed the race in 16:33.

3A Girls

Every Centennial runner finished between place 10 and 19 as the Eagles won the state championship for 3A Girls. Devin McIntyre led the way with a time of 20:26, while Kara Taylor and Jessica Jiang weren't far behind with times of 20:36 and 20:37 respectively. Northern from Calvert County finished second with a point total of 84.

Annie Imhof from Great Mills was the individual state champ with a time of 19:25. Poolesville's Nandini Satsangi ran the race in 19:45, which was good enough for second place.

3A Boys

River Hill placed three runners in the top 10 to win the 3A Boys team state championship. The Hawks scored a 58 while Atholton, who finished second, scored a 134. Trent Rose was the fastest runner for River Hill, running the race in 16:25 and placing third overall. River Hill's Rahul Reddy (16:54) and Jacob Parker (16:56) finished seventh and eighth respectively to help River Hill win the state championship.

Northern's Matt Bennett was the individual state champ with a time of 16:14. Darren Harman from South Hagerstown placed second, also finishing with a time of 16:14 but being just behind Bennett.

4A Girls

Abigail Green and Emily Murphy both finished in the top five to lead Walter Johnson High School to the 4A Girls state title. Green finished second with a time of 18:59 while Murphy placed fifth with a time of 19:14. Walter Johnson scored 51 points, while Dulaney finished second with an 85. Dulaney's best runner was Kristin Meek (19:25) who finished seventh.

Maria Coffin from Annapolis won the individual state championship with a time of 18:25.

4A Boys

Dulaney's five runners finished in the top 16 as the Lions won the 4A state championship with a score of 37. Severna Park scored 76 points, which was good enough for second place.

Dulaney's top runner was Eric Walz who finished with a time of 16:06. It was the best time of any competitor today. Andrew King was Dulaney's second best runner and placed third overall with a time of 16:24. Sean Smyth got sixth overall by completing the race in 16:32.

Severna Park's Andrew Forsyth (16:29) and Joshua Tucker (16:31) finished fourth and fifth respectively to lead the Falcons. Rohann Asfaw from Richard Montgomery placed second with a time of 16:20. He was the only runner to finish in the top six who wasn't from either Dulaney or Severna Park.
