Reservoir's Morris Drafted by Orioles

Cody Morris, who just graduated from Reservoir High School in Howard County, was drafted in the 32nd round by the Baltimore Orioles. The 6-foot-4, 200 pound pitcher was projected to be selected on the first day of the draft before he had to have Tommy John surgery late last month.

Morris had one of the more prolific careers in the history of high school baseball in the Baltimore area. He was named Howard County Pitcher of the Year three times and had a career ERA of under 1.00. The highlight of his career was winning the 2014 MPSSAA 3A State Championship as a junior against North Harford. He threw a complete game in the championship, while only allowing two hits.

For his high school coach Adam Leader, coaching Morris was a dream come true.

"Cody is an unbelievable young man," Leader said. "He's a very hard worker and dedicated to getting himself better everyday. I feel very blessed to be able to coach Cody for the past four years. He has meant a lot to the Reservoir program and my life. He is the first player of mine to get drafted. I can't be more proud of Cody and am so happy for him and his family. I know Cody's career is just beginning. I can't wait to see him play at the next level. You won't find a bigger Cody Morris fan than me."cody state champ K pic

Morris plans to stick with his commitment to the University of South Carolina instead of turning professional- he signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Gamecocks during the Fall of 2014.
