Reginald F. Lewis Football Excited for Upcoming Season

Most coaches would view a 2-8 season as a disappointment, but not Donte' Foster, head coach of the football team at Reginald F. Lewis High School. The Falcons were young last year, coupled with a young coaching staff, which made the 2014 season a learning experience for all.

"Having a team full of underclassmen allowed us to go back and really reinforce the fundamentals," said Foster. "Although we finished 2-8, we gained a lot of experience for this upcoming season."

The experience of going through last year is what has Foster excited for this season. Lewis is returning 75% of their roster from last year's team, including the following standouts: senior quarterback Evin Reynolds, wide receiver/defensive back Kendall Wagner (SO), linebacker/running back Rashard Brown (SO) and offensive/defensive linemen Malik Fox (JR) and Kai McLetchie (SO).

Along with having young talent, the Falcons roster is filled with players who are hungry to get better.

"Our strength is that are kids are very coach-able," said Foster. "On both sides of the ball my coaches have young men who now have more knowledge about the game than this past year."

While the team is excited and ready to have success, Foster does have concerns about having his young team being able to keep their focus from week to week. The team has set goals for themselves to try to stay focused throughout the year, which includes having a team GPA of 3.0, and qualifying for the MPSSAA playoffs. Lewis is looking to improve upon last season, and the team plans to deliver.

"Watching this team people will feel the same enthusiasm as we do about our program," said Foster. "We are young and hungry which is something that as a coach, you couldn't be more excited about."
