Century Two-Sport Standout Will Play Lacrosse in College

Playing multiple sports is not an uncommon choice for high school students these days. What is uncommon, however, is playing multiple sports at the same time.

Century senior Jalen Stanton played lacrosse and competed in track and field this spring for the Knights as he had the previous two years. A standout, well-rounded track athlete, Stanton was chosen by the Carroll County Times as the 2019 male Track Athlete of the Year after his excellent performance at the state meet. He won three individual titles (100 meter dash, 100 meter hurdles and high jump) and anchored the team's 4x100 meter relay to a third-place finish. Century finished second overall with 68 points, and Stanton contributed to 36 of them.

Stanton, however, spent a majority of his time practicing with the lacrosse team that made it to the 2A state championship game, where they lost to Glenelg, 11-7. Stanton would attend lacrosse practice every day of the week and then work out on the track a couple days a week.

Despite his standout success on the track, Stanton will play lacrosse - the sport he truly loves, as he told the Times - in college at Lynn University in Florida. You can Stanton's full story at the Times' here.
