Poolesville Field Hockey Preview

After a magical season in 2014, Poolesville field hockey is hoping to obtain the same success with a different group of players. The Falcons graduated seven seniors, six of whom were starters, from last year's team which made it to the semifinal round of the MPSSAA 2A state tournament.

"This year we will be a very young team. There are only seven returners," Poolesville coach Rachel Stream said. "So this year it will be challenging but if the girls work hard we will have no problems."

Stream is anticipating her team's speed to be its strength this year. The young Falcons should be able to outrun most of their opponents, the team will just need to make sure they perfect their hockey skills in order to maximize their advantage. A few players who will be important for Poolesville are Casey Harkins, Jolee Raines, Christina Hilton, Carley Kenley and Sophia Mense.

On the schedule, Stream is excited to see the Falcons play B-CC, Quince Orchard, Walter Johnson, Damascus and Blake. The experience of playing these teams should help Poolesville come postseason play. Until then, Poolesville is working hard to get better as a unit before the regular season starts.

"If we can learn to connect we will be successful," said Stream. "Being such a young team it will take a lot of practice and learning to connect as a team."

As the team logs more hours playing and practicing together, Stream is hoping her young team will improve.

"This season people can expect to see a different type of play than the normal Poolesville type of field hockey," said Stream. "We hope to see a huge improvement over the season with girls not only learning the game of hockey, but understanding more of the game than just hitting and running after the ball. We want to show that we know more of the understanding of the game"
