Jack Jenkens, a senior pitcher/first baseman from the Bel Air High School varsity baseball team in Harford County, has been named the County Sports Zone/U.S. Army Impact Player of the Month!

Jenkens was nominated for the award by John Swanson, Bel Air baseball's head coach.

"Jack Jenkens is an outstanding young man who displays qualities and characteristics that make him a true leader on and off the field," Swanson wrote in an email. "These qualities are displayed daily from his manners and kind nature, to his willingness to talk to anyone he meets to listen or to share advice with."

As a freshman in 2013, he was a member of Bel Air's state championship baseball team. He is the only player from that team that is left at the school.

Jenkens is a two year starter and captain for both Bel Air's baseball and football teams. He recovered from a serious MCL injury while competing for the school's wrestling team and was forced to sit out his whole sophomore baseball season.

That didn't stop him from being a productive member of Bel Air's baseball team once he returned to the diamond. He's been named All-County, 2nd Team All-Conference, Team Maryland MSABC and Pre-Season All-Metro at first base.

Jenkens has also been a member of some pretty prestigious teams away from Bel Air. He played for the 18U Under Armour National Team that competed at the Omaha National World Series. At the 16U level, Jenkens played for the Blue Chips Club that were

"I have coached hundreds of players and had an opportunity to share thoughts and stories with all of them," Swanson wrote. "Jack Jenkens is one young man who has left his mark on our school community, our baseball team and our coaching staff."

Jenkens will continue his baseball career at Shippensburg University next year. He plans to pursue a degree in biology.

County Sports Zone would like to thank the U.S. Army for sponsoring the Impact Player of the Month Award.
