Elwood Townsend Steps Down as Douglass Football Head Coach

Elwood Townsend, who led Douglass football from Baltimore City to two straight MPSSAA 1A state finals appearances in 2013 and 2014, has decided to leave the program. Towsend has stated that he felt he was not on the same page with the administration at Douglass over the direction of the football team, and thus decided it was best for him to step away.

2015 was a tough season for the Ducks. Already given the difficult task of having to compete at the 3A level for the first time, the team dealt with a myriad of off-field issues which led to the team having one game not played, as well as having to forfeit two games. The Ducks had qualified to participate in the 3A state playoffs with a record of 7-2, but the two forfeits dropped the team's record to 5-4 and meant they had to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2011.

Townsend will still be remembered for leading Douglass through a golden era of success for their football team. Their two state finals trips ended in losses to Allegany County's Fort Hill (25-0 in 2013, and 40-8 in 2014).
