North Harford 32 - Winters Mill 29

North Harford (photos above courtesy of Kimberly Iddings) won a back and forth game on the road against Winters Mill to become 3-1 in 2015. The final score was 32-29.

Running back Jeff Mergler was the star of the show for the Hawks on offense, finishing with 269 yards 39 carries. Mergler also did a good job of finding the end zone, scoring five rushing touchdowns. North Harford's quarterback Ethan Johnson finished 10 for 20 passing for 83 yards. Glenn Doering led receivers with five catches for 31 yards.

The defense was led by JT Kidd who had 11 tackles. Ben Sexton also had an excellent game for North Harford, recording eight tackles. Gary Martin had the big play for the defense when he came up with a vital interception in the 4th quarter.

North Harford will face a big test next week as they travel to face Edgewood next Friday night. Kickoff for that game is 7:00

Watkins Mill 22 - Magruder 19

Watkins Mill (photos above courtesy of Reginald Spears) got an excellent performance from quarterback Markel Grant, who led the team to a 22-19 win over Magruder in Montgomery County action. Watkins Mill is now 2-2 this season.

Grant threw for two touchdowns, completing 14 of 26 passes for 187 yards. He also used his legs effectively, scampering for 66 yards, including a 50 yard touchdown run. Grant's two favorite targets were Devonte Bruff and Daquan Wims, both of whom caught a touchdown. Bruff finished with five catches for 69 yards while Wims had four catches for 55 yards. Antony Zavala led all running backs with 72 yards on 11 carries.

Wims also turned in a superb display on defense, leading the Wolverines with seven tackles. Zavala had two sacks for the defense, while Geeonni Brooks had six total tackles. Luis Jimenez picked off a pass for Watkins Mill and Malik Butler recovered a fumble as well.

Watkins Mill will look to go above .500 next Friday when they host Poolesville at 6:30.

Boonsboro 20 - Middletown 12

Boonsboro (photos above courtesy of Emily Lum) remained undefeated last night, beating Middletown 20-12. As has been the case all season for the Warriors, their defense was stifling. Boonsboro has not allowed more than 14 points in a game all season.

Jared Tribett led the Warriors with 8.5 tackles, including a sack. Cameron McClellan wasn't too far behind him with 6.5 tackles. Ben Sandy had 4.5 tackles and forced a fumble, while Dillon Bodenheimer had 4.5 tackles including a sack. Alex Wetzel had 5.5 tackles.

On offense, the Warriors got a steady performance from quarterback Devin Griffith, who completed four of nine passes for 84 yards. Griffith connected with Wetzel in the first quarter for a five yard touchdown to give the Warriors the early lead. Zachary Grams ran the ball 17 times and gained 81 yards. Grams also found the end zone in the 3rd quarter. Owen Glass ran for 22 yards and also scored a touchdown. Stephen Smothers caught one pass for 35 yards, while Wetzel caught two for 34 yards.

Boonsboro will try to become 5-0 next Friday at Williamsport. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00.

Frederick Douglass 37 - Gwynn Park 8

The Eagles jumped out to a 23-0 lead at halftime and didn't look back, topping Gwynn Park 37-8. Douglass, who won the MPSSAA 2A state championship last year, have won two straight games and are now 2-2.

Quarterback Devin Butler had an immense all-around game for the Eagles. On offense, he rushed for 171 yards on 17 carries, and scored three touchdowns. He also was three for six passing for 47 yards. Defensively, he racked up nine tackles and had one pass defended. Butler is also the team's kicker and made two extra points. He also converted on a 35 yard field goal.

Thomas Meyers had a strong day for Douglass, rushing for 88 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Jacardi Brooks had one catch for 30 yards, while Kollin Smith had one catch for 20 yards. Smith also had three tackles and three passes defended on defense.

Jerrod Williamson was the leader of the Douglass defense, coming up with 18 tackles and an interception which he returned 18 yards. Keshawn Hall came up with four tackles and two interceptions, one of which he returned 76 yards. Glenwood Williams registered three tackles. Williams had two sacks for a combined 24 yards lost.

Douglass will try to go above .500 for the first time in 2015 next Saturday at Central. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00.

Eastern Tech 58 - Loch Raven 6

The Mavericks put in another outstanding display against Loch Raven, winning 58-6. Eastern Tech is now 4-0 this year.

The Mavericks were up 44-0 at halftime. Ian McBorrough and Brandon Hlavach both had two touchdowns in the first half, while Riley Hodge and Deron Brinkley each caught touchdown passes from Brandon Thomas. Hlavach also had a safety for the Eastern Tech defense.

Fawad Malik scored the only points of the third quarter on a 44 yard touchdown run. Following a Loch Raven touchdown in the fourth quarter, McBorrough returned the kickoff for a touchdown.

Eastern Tech is one of two undefeated teams in Baltimore County, the other being Dundalk. The Mavericks play at Randallstown next Saturday at 2:00.
