Sherwood High School Recognizes College Bound Athletes

This past Tuesday, Sherwood High School in Montgomery County honored 19 of its seniors that will play a sport in college. 10 different sports were highlighted- baseball, dance, field hockey, football, gymnastics, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and volleyball.

Baseball had the most players getting highlighted with six. Softball, which will play in the MPSSAA 4A North regional final tomorrow, has one student athlete playing at the collegiate level.

Below is an excerpt from the press release that was sent to CSZ by Sherwood's athletic director, Kathy Green.

The future NCAA athletes are:

Baseball: Connor Brady, Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville; Brendan Collins, Radford University, Alec Goldberg, Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville; Matthew Migliozzi, Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville; Josh Seils, Towson State University; Philip Wugalter, Stevenson University

Dance: Julia Muller, Coastal Caroline University

Field Hockey: Sydney Abramowitz, Montclair State University; Justin Lyons, Newberry College

Football: Nick Comeau, Salisbury University; Jeremy Harrison, Frostburg State University

Gymnastics: Toni Williams, Rutgers University

Lacrosse: Nick Gallagher, Frostburg State University; Matt Popeck, St. Joseph's University

Soccer: Kelly Carter, McDaniel College

Softball: Amanda Berkley, Mount St. Mary's University

Swimming: Cayden Abramowitz, Frostburg State University; Jaimy Wenhold, Wingate University

Volleyball: Megan Wilson, University of Virginia.

"We are very proud of these student-athletes, who put in countless hours in the classroom, at practices and at competitions. Parents, coaches, and community youth programs all play a role in their success," said Principal William Gregory.

Sherwood competes at the 4A level and since 1974 has won 30 state championships, 73 regional championships and 162 divisional championships. Sherwood draws students from Olney, Ashton, Brookeville, Sandy Spring, Brinklow, and Silver Spring.
