Fort Hill Wins Fourth Consecutive MPSSAA 1A Football State Title
Fort Hill from Allegany County won its fourth straight MPSSAA 1A state championship by beating Harford County's Havre de Grace 35-14. It was a rematch of the 2015 state final, which the Sentinels won 44-14.
Fort Hill got a monstrous effort from Troy Banks, who finished the game with 189 yards on 25 carries and four touchdowns. Banks was one of four runners who the Sentinels funneled their offense through. Brayden Brown also had a big game, gaining 140 yards on 12 carries and finding the end zone once. Raen Smith racked up 52 yards on six carries and quarterback Nathaniel Graves chipped in 29 yards on seven carries.
The Fort Hill defense also performed well, limiting Havre de Grace to 153 yards of total offense. Brayden Conley finished with a team high nine tackles, including a sack, while Austin Martin had seven tackles. Brown had a big interception in the third quarter on a drive when it looked like the Warriors could score.
Havre de Grace put in an effort that isn't fairly reflected in the final score. After falling behind 21-0 by halftime, the Warriors battled back to make it 21-14 with 5:57 left in the third quarter. Sean Greeley had a one yard touchdown run, while Kenneth Sumpter made a terrific athletic catch on an eight yard pass from Mike Flosser. The team's third quarter surge began on the opening kickoff, when the Warriors forced a fumble and recovered it. Flosser put in a gutsy performance, finishing with 121 yards on 11 completions.
This was Fort Hill's sixteenth straight playoff victory.
