Urbana Hires Ann Eickelberg

Urbana High School in Frederick County has recently appointed Ann Eickelberg to coach their varsity girls lacrosse team. Eickelberg coached at St. James School in Hagerstown last year, leading the Saints to the IPSL championship.

"It was an exciting season where the girls got a chance to grow as a program, as individuals, and as lacrosse players," Eickelberg said. "St. James is a wonderful school where I was able to teach, coach, advise and live on dorm with the students."

While it was a successful and fruitful first season for Eickelberg at St. James, she couldn't turn it down when Urbana offered her the head coach position.

"I could tell right away that the school has an amazing atmosphere to it, both academically and athletically," Eickelberg said. "Urbana has great school spirit, tons of administration and parent support, as well as incredible student-athletes."

On the field, Eickelberg is taking hold of a squad whose season finished in their sectional semifinal of the MPSSAA 3A/2A state tournament. The Hawks lost in that round to Frederick County rival Oakdale by a final score of 23-7. Eickelberg is hoping to get together with her players early on to decide what their goals for the 2016 campaign will be, both from an individual and team perspective.

"During the season, each game will give us different goals to work for," Eickelberg said. "As a coach, my goal each year is that every girl improves her skills, increases their love of the game, and connects with their teammates."

Eickelberg will also be teaching mathematics at Urbana.
